so the easy bit: its gonna be haikyuu because the brainrot i have is literally incurable. now for everything after that. it gets a little more complicated. bc you are so right. if the soulmatism is easy then it's no fun! it's gotta be painful and messy for it to be interesting! what's the point of a world that's easy? (<- said by someone who keeps writing a concerning number of unrequited soulmate aus)

im gonna be honest, this is a little (a lot) inspired by a prompt i got in january 2022 (yikes sorry some of y'all are still waiting on a bunch of those) from @/what-the-flowers (once again im so sorry).

the parts of the prompt that i'm working with are (a) dreamsharing soulmates, (b) platonic soulmates, and (c) rare enough that 1/2 of the pair doesn't believe in them!! all of those ideas are SUPER exciting to me individually, but put them together......hehehhehehe

so the pairings im thinkin bout. i think it's gonna be hinata-centric because i've never really gone that route with a fic before and that feels unfair for a show literally about him. i think he starts sharing dreams with kageyama after he moves to brazil and then they have to navigate that change in their relationship when they're suddenly so far apart.

but the thing is that, like. they aren't in love with each other. they're besties, each other's greatest supporter and greatest rival, but they're not in love. i am forever a platonic kagehina truther. im not sorry for who i am. but anyways they've only ever heard stories about soulmates, and only ever been told that they're romantic.

and they don't really know how to navigate all of that, especially when neither of them are, like, the greatest at interpersonal emotional communication.

anyways! while this is happening i am shoving kenhina in there because i am currently shaking them around in my mind. it's kenma and hinata falling for each other but this whole soulmate thing is making things stupid complicated, and it doesn't need to, but it is, and it sucks.

oh and also kenma's bestie and no. 1 support system is obviously kuroo and as a side note, kuroo just straight up. does not believe in soulmates. i think i'm gonna force in a backstory about his parents there but it's probably gonna be not at all relevant, i just have a lot of thoughts about the kuroo family. anyways. this is ALSO making things complicated in some way that i haven't figured out yet.

but kenma doesn't have a soulmate, and he's falling in love with hinata, who suddenly has been given a soulmate years after kenma started being interested in him (maybe they were already established for a bit? not sure yet), and what does that mean for any of them?

i also have a side plot about oikawa and iwaoi and california and brazil. this is probably going to be a minor subplot used to push hinata towards being brave enough for an unconventional soulmate relationship and it may not really be necessary but i need 30,000 words out of this so it's going in there.

Daily Life Headcanons (SFW):

I pack his lunch every morning and slip in little notes with love affirmations and words of encouragement to help him navigate throughout his day

He puts short poems and haiku that he's written for me in my lunches. Also leaves poems in random places around the house for me to find.

It genuinely confuses me how people characterize Shiki as someone who gets off to the thought of feeling powerful by raping and killing people when his bio straight up states he hates people who only kill for the pleasure of it LMAO

Even then, the POV of his drama CD makes it painfully obvious how killing doesn't turn him on or give him a sexual thrill, because Shiki straight up acts pissed at how weak people are whenever he kills them. There is zero (0) instance of him getting aroused from killing people; people just mischaracterize him that way because they conflate him raping Akira with him getting off to feeling powerful in general.

The drama CD shows more of how Shiki feels insecure about his own weakness when he kills people, because he isn't actually proving that he's "stronger" than Nano when he kills weaklings. Yes. Yes, she knows, she is aware of her burning curiosity. And it’s hard to deny that even though it doesn’t involve her, she is unusually intrigued by the concept. She overheard them in his office, Miguel and LYLA–his A.I. assistant–discussing a plan.  A plan to create a physical form for LYLA to enhance her abilities as his assistant and grant her further autonomy beyond her access to the security network and other adjacent systems alongside her recent emergence into emotional intelligence. It was all so fascinating. The steps Bridge had taken herself in her development in the span of weeks, she was watching unfold in another intelligence in real-time.

There it was again. That sense of solidarity in knowing she wasn’t completely alone in her existence as an artificial being, made of code and metal. It was like a magnetic pull that made that little voice in her head that encouraged her to act on her wants all the more present in her mind. She wanted to be a part of that process that she’d been through so long ago yet was still so familiar with like it happened yesterday. She wanted to guide her in that process and grant her her own knowledge. What’s the worst that can happen if she pilots your hardware for a while? You’re prepared for this. You can handle this. You can trust her, and she will be entirely safe in your care for that short time. And think about how much she would benefit from the experience, how much more streamlined that eventual transition from intangible to tangible will be once her own body was complete. It will make all the difference–and maybe reduce the headaches for everyone all-around, mostly Miguel as he acclimates to the change himself. Just… Try it. You can’t account for every single last risk factor, can you? No. So just do it and take it as it comes.

She stood in the middle of her dorm a moment, eyes closed as she ran a quick check of her hardware before making her final decision. RAM is in good condition. Storage is defragmented and all directories are organized. Sensors are calibrated and functional. Nanomachines are synchronized properly. Servos and joints retain a full range of motion. Coolant is at above optimal operational temperatures. Energy reserves are complete. Good. Everything’s in its right place and ready for its–potentially–temporary host. It’s time to make the call.

Her gaze trains itself on her watch, her arm rising to eye-level and the sleeve that was weighed down by the leaden metal cuff at the end sliding to her forearm to reveal device so she can start the transmission, navigating the menus on the digital interface indirectly via wireless communication–the unique way that she operated and communicated the Society’s technology.

“LYLA, may I speak to you for a moment? At your leisure, of course.”

This is not meant to be a push for an update but I have to know: are you one of those unicorn authors that post once a month and finish their fics within 2 years???? All authors are godsend and I appreciate every single update I'm blessed with.

Idk about unicorns but I have been trying to keep to a minimum of one chapter a month! I’d love to write and edit faster but Real Life has been Interesting these past few months (health stuff, unexpectedly lost my job last September, moved several states and started my new job in January, which I like a lot but which sadly leaves me less time for writing than my old job). Up until around what will be chapter 10 I’m working off my first draft which I wrote and ‘won’ with for nano ‘23, so that’s 50k of raw wordcount. I really thought posting would go faster, but it was mostly written in a frenzy so it needs… generous amounts of editing. Once past that buffer I hopefully won’t slow down too too much since by then the plot threads will be threaded and it'll be more a matter of keeping the whole thing on the rails then having to hammer said rails into shape. I also try to have a few little side projects I can hop between and I might experiment with putting them on tumblr if I can find the time/motivation/work up the nerve to do so lol. Ty!!
